About this project

from Jenny Beale, founder and director of Brigit's Garden

For the last fifteen years, the 11 acres of Brigit’s Garden have been an important part of my life. It has been a privilege to walk the land, discover its flora and fauna delight in its vistas and secret places, and soak up its special spirit. With the help and support of many others, I have planted trees, sown meadows, created paths and established gardens. Through this process I have gained a deeper appreciation of the rhythm of the seasons as they follow the yearly cycle of renewal, growth, maturity and decline.

My intention for this blog is to take a personal view of nature as I follow the cycle of the seasons through a full year. Twice a week I will take a walk in Brigit’s Garden and pick up a natural object, 104 in total. The object will provide the main theme for the post and I will weave in reflections about nature, Celtic traditions, and the natural and human history of Brigit’s Garden in the context of the West of Ireland. I am keeping the natural objects as I collect them and intend making them into a collage for the Garden at the end of the year.

Brigit’s Garden is a place for people as well as nature. It is a great pleasure welcoming visitors from all over the world and I hope this blog will be another way for people to engage with the Garden. I warmly invite you to share my journey through the year and welcome your comments and reflections.
